Shamanic journeys in the land of the Sámi, under the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun

In the far north of Europe, where the forest meets the tundra and the sky dances with light, the Sámi have kept alive one of the oldest shamanic traditions of our continent. Our Nordic journeys take you to Swedish Lapland, the forests of Sweden and the Norwegian Arctic, to meet this living wisdom — under the Northern Lights in winter, or bathed in the Midnight Sun in summer.

Each journey is led by experienced guides, in small groups, with ceremonies held in nature: fire and drum rituals, joik chants, offerings, silent walks in the snow or along the fjords. No previous experience is needed, only openness and respect.

Your questions

When can I see the Northern Lights?

The aurora season in the Arctic runs roughly from September to March, when nights are dark. Our February journey in Norway and our New Year journey in Lapland take place right in the heart of this season. The lights depend on solar activity and clear skies, so they can never be guaranteed.

What is the Midnight Sun?

Above the Arctic Circle, from late May to late July, the sun never sets. Our July journey in northern Norway lets you live this continuous daylight and celebrate it in ceremony.

Who are the Sámi?

The Sámi are the indigenous people of the far north of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Traditionally reindeer herders, they have kept a living relationship with nature, the drum and the joik, their sacred chant. Our journeys are built with Sámi knowledge-keepers and in respect for their culture.

Do I need any experience of shamanism?

No. All our Nordic journeys are open to beginners as well as experienced practitioners. Every ceremony is explained beforehand.

Is it very cold?

In winter, temperatures in Lapland and the Norwegian Arctic can drop well below freezing, sometimes to −20 °C or lower. We send you a detailed clothing list with the Trip Notes, and the time spent outdoors is planned with care. Summer in the Arctic is mild but changeable.
